The IFCC governing body is the Council that consists of one Representative appointed by each Full Member (voting), Affiliate Member, and Corporate Member. It convenes at the triennial International Congress of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine.
Between Council meetings, the business of IFCC is conducted by the Executive Board that is elected by the Council. Any important questions that arise between Council meetings, such as the admission of new Full Members to the Federation, approval of recommendations, and changes or amendments of statutes are decided by mail ballot of the Full Member Representatives voting on behalf of their societies.
